Nils Bürglen, LL.M.oec.

Nils Bürglen studied law in Passau and Le Mans, France, specializing in Competition Law, Anti-Trust Law and Intellectual Property Rights, thereby acquiring additional skills in Patent Law. He gained practical experience during his studies, among other things, as a staff member for Member of the Bundestag Volker Kauder in Berlin, during his legal clerkship at the Munich Higher Regional Court, at the Cologne law firm Linklaters Oppenhoff & Rädler in the intellectual property practice group, and in the trademark law department of Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart.

As part of a postgraduate program in business law at the University of Cologne, Mr. Bürglen earned a Master of Business Law and Economic Law (LL.M. oec.).

Mr. Bürglen has been with Diehl & Partner for over 20 years. Within the field of intellectual property law, his practice focuses on trademark and design law.

Nils Bürglen served for six years each on the Law Committee and the Design Committee, as well as for three years on the Membership & Disciplinary Committee and the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee. He is now once again a member of ECTA’s Design Committee. Among other things, this organization promotes expertise in the field of intellectual property law, including trademarks, industrial designs, copyright, and other intellectual property rights within the European Union.

He is also a member of GRUR (German Association for Intellectual Property and Copyright Law) and is frequently attending the annual INTA meeting (International Trademark Association).

Furthermore, Mr. Bürglen was appointed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) as an auditor to review the Office’s decisions regarding the invalidity of designs for the periods 2020/2021 and 2022/2023. As part of this EUIPO SQAP (Stakeholder Quality Assurance Panel), users are directly involved in the Office’s quality management system and contribute directly to improving the quality of the Office’s decisions, particularly with regard to their clarity, consistency, and predictability.
