10th Edition of Nice Classification

Trademarks are used to distinguish goods and services of companies. The classification of goods and services is defined by the International treaty known as "Nice Classification" or "International Classification of Goods and Services". Every five years the Nice Classification is revised.

Leahy-Smith America Invents Act

On September 16, 2011 US-President Barack Obama signed the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act. Revisions to US patent law have been under discussion for a long time, and have now finally been enacted. Many changes will only come into effect in 2012/2013, for example the "first-to-invent" system that has been applied by the USA will be replaced by the "first-to-file" system that is more common throughout the world.

Dr. Elmar Hiltl, chemist, obtained his Doctorate in Natural Sciences and is a qualified German and European Patent Attorney. He has been in practice as a patent attorney since 1976. Dr. Hiltl obtained practical experience with Schering AG/Berlin at subsidiary and holding companies in Munich, Portugal and Mexico. This experience included industrial adhesives, coatings, sealing materials, polyurethane foams and their usage with metals, alloys, plastics, wood and other natural and synthetic materials. Dr. Hiltl's technical fields of expertise are inorganic/organic chemistry, chemical engineering, metallurgy, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, alloys, polymers, plastics, heat resistant materials, photochemistry, hospital and medical supplies and techniques, aerosol techniques, dairy products and foodstuffs, agricultural technology and mechanics. As a patent attorney, Dr. Hiltl works primarily in matters involving opposition, nullity and infringement cases, as well as other industrial property matters and license agreements. He is of counsel since 2009.
