10th Edition of Nice Classification

Trademarks are used to distinguish goods and services of companies. The classification of goods and services is defined by the International treaty known as "Nice Classification" or "International Classification of Goods and Services". Every five years the Nice Classification is revised.

Leahy-Smith America Invents Act

On September 16, 2011 US-President Barack Obama signed the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act. Revisions to US patent law have been under discussion for a long time, and have now finally been enacted. Many changes will only come into effect in 2012/2013, for example the "first-to-invent" system that has been applied by the USA will be replaced by the "first-to-file" system that is more common throughout the world.

In 1999 Christian Menges obtained his university degree in engineering from the Technical University of Munich. He specialized in the subjects automatic control, measuring and computer engineering, semiconductor components and nuclear energy. During his university education, Mr. Menges experienced different internships with major electrical industries in Germany and the United States of America. Mr. Menges is a qualified German and European Patent Trademark and Design Attorney, in practice since 2003. He handles patent matters in the field of audio/video coding, automobile, electronics, mechanics, material sciences, measuring and control engineering. This involves prosecution, invalidation and infringement work. He also handles trademark, utility model, design, licensing and contract matters.

Mr. Menges is tutoring European Patent Law for the CEIPI (Centre for International Industrial Property Studies) since 2004.

Mr. Menges is a member of GRUR (German Association for Intellectual Property and Copyright Law) and FICPI (Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle).

Mr. Menges speaks German and English, is able to converse in Italian and has a basic understanding of French.
